Ampcontrol's young engineers are leading our innovative approach to projects and to recognise their contribution to our market leading engineering we have introduced an 'Ampcontrol Young Engineer of the Year Award'. The award recognises young engineers who demonstrate outstanding technical rigour, engineering professionalism and business acumen. The recipients receive a Peter Cockbain medal in recognition of our Technical Director and Ampcontrol Co-founder. In its inaugural year two recipients were awarded the Peter Cockbain Medal and were nominated by Ampcontrol as candidates for the Engineers Australia Young Engineer of the Year Award. ResTech's Heath Raftery was one of the recipients who was nominated for his contribution to improving small wind turbine technology, (find out more on this project) and Ampcontrol’s Chris Bird, an applications engineer and industry advisor to The University of Newcastle, received the medal for his development of an integrated audio communications system for underground mining applications. This system brings together disparate communication mediums using Voice over IP to provide effective, safe and managable communications between above and below ground locations. We congratulate both recipients on their contribution to innovation in engineering.

Typical applications are coal face and continuous miner operations.
