On 24 April 2010 a group from Allenwest Wallacetown completed a charity hill walk to Glencoe in the highlands of Scotland.
Following a first stage meeting in Bridge of Orchy the team proceeded to Glencoe, which is surrounded by wild and precipitous mountains, ascending from the A82 road to a landscape of rugged grandeur. The glen is steeped in history and was the scene of an infamous massacre in 1692.
Initially there was a gruelling climb to a saddle between the mountains, thereafter the walkers were rewarded with spectacular views of Glencoe and the neighbouring Glen Etive. Two Munros were completed – Stob Dhu (958m) and Stob Coire Raineach (925m).
On return to the A82 the team repaired to the Bridge of Orchy Hotel where a well-earned libation was consumed.
The total amount of £870 was raised and donated to CLICSargent, a local childhood cancer charity. Garry Morton from Allenwest Wallacetown is pictured presenting the cheque to Jill McCurdie of ClicSargent.
